Germany: adoption of law allowing 24 months dependents-leave on part time basis

On Thursday December 4 the Bundestag adopted two texts aimed at reconciling private and professional life. The first is a law for improved balance between family, work and dependents-leave that governs and broadens the conditions under which an employee may take more time off to manage situations of family dependence whilst guaranteeing his/her job. The second, voted on by deputies is an increase in credits of the order of almost one billion euros extra per year from 2015 so as to develop crèche services and facilitate women going to work.

Financing and duration of dependents leave now extended. After overhauling the law on parental leave (c.f. article No. 8759) the Minister for Families, the Youth and the Elderly, Manuela Schwesig is continuing in the same vein.
