Not even a week after announcing the cut of 6,100 jobs throughout the world, 950 of which at the company's headquarters in Berlin, Bayer Schering Pharma's management and the works council reached, on March 8, an agreement setting the broad lines of a redundancy plan for the concerned employees in Berlin. The WC had threatened to boycott Schering's incorporation into the Bayer group, if the management had not given up all redundancies after mid-2008 in Berlin (see our story n° 070207). (Ref. 070229)
The agreement plans that the loss of the 950 jobs at Bayer Schering Pharma’s headquarters in Berlin will take place as part of a redundancy plan, which will extend to December 31, 2009. The workforce cut will be carried out “essentially through early retirements, part-time devices for ends of careers, and non-renewal of fixed-term contracts,” explained the company in a press release.
