Germany: Coca-Cola Germany rules out economic layoffs until the end of 2012

Increased competition. “After the threat of massive warning strikes and extremely complicated negotiations, we managed, a) to maintain jobs and b) to conclude guidelines for five collective agreements” rejoiced Claus-Harald Güster, chief negotiator and leader of NGG, after a last marathon 4-day/4-night negotiation round. “The new collective agreement will contain a series of measures” which will allow “saving the competiveness” of the company and granting employees’ legitimate wish of employment guarantee, the management underlined in a press release. Geert Harzmann, spokesman for Coca-Cola Erfrischungsgetränke, told Planet Labor that the agreement will help the company face increased competition on the market of non-alcoholic beverages, where a price war is raging. It will allow it “adjust capacity as necessary within the framework of measures as social as possible.”
