Germany: construction employers and unions want to improve workers’ safety on the sites

A plea mostly for SMEs.  “Ensuring safety on the site is a common task for which both employers and employees are responsible.  Everyone must be careful, assess risks and fight them on time” declared Hans-Hartwig Löwenstein, head of the ZDB, as an introduction, calling on businesses to promote a “culture of protection at work.”  Gerhard Citrich, specialized in protection at work for the IG-Bau, told Planet Labor that this call is mostly aimed for SMEs.  “Large businesses have already taken the necessary prevention measures and have a true culture of protection at work, which isn’t the case in SMEs.  Our main goal is to raise awareness among all the people concerned out there.”
