Germany: Deutsche Post and Verdi bury the hatchet
The biggest dispute at Deutsche Post for twenty years finally came to a close in the evening of 05 July. At the end of almost four weeks of strike action plus a final 3-day negotiation marathon both the services union Verdi and management at Deutsche Post announced they had come to a compromise agreement for the 140,000 German employees of the company. The union did not manage to convince the German Postal Service Company to reintegrate staff from its 49 low-cost DHL Delivery GmbH distribution subsidiaries into the house company agreements. However management did commit to retaining all its current packages delivery staff, approximately 7,600, within the main company as well as retaining its postal distribution services in-house until December 2018. The agreement excluding all layoffs on economic grounds that runs until December 2015 was renewed for a further 4 years. The indefinite strike ends on the night Monday 06/Tuesday 07 July.
