After a three-month pilot phase, Germany’s third-largest DIY chain (by revenues) decided to offer its 11,000 employees a ‘tailor-made work system.’ In it are five cumulative options for adjusting working hours upwards or downwards on an annual basis. The primary objective is to facilitate employees’ work lives and work-life balance, while at the same time preventing potential recruitment problems due to Germany’s growing shortage of qualified skilled workers.
Work-life-balance and attractiveness. “In the past, working time was based on machine operating time. Today, it is focused on people. At Hornbach, we want to attract and retain committed employees.
