After the video surveillance scandal at Lidl, the different Lander's data protection authorities demand penalties amounting to several thousand Euros for the German discounter. Low-Saxony's authorities alone ask Lidl for €700.000. While downplaying the extent of the case, the company declared, on September 6, 2008, that it would take on the imposed sanctions. (Ref. 080666)
“Lidl already told the competent authorities that it would most likely take on the sanctions defined in this context without any opposition” the company, based on Necharsulm, announced on Saturday. At the same time, the discounter denied consistently spying on its employees, which was confirmed by a temporary report published by the Bade-Wurttemberg data protection authorities.
