Germany: nearly one in two employees gets holiday bonus

A recent survey by the WSI Institute of Economic and Social Research of the Hans-Böckler Foundation found that 46 percent of German employees get a holiday bonus (Urlaubsgeld). This bonus, awarded quite unevenly, depends on numerous criteria, notably the size of the company, its geographical location, the employees' professional experience and pay, and, most importantly, whether or not the company is affiliated with an employers' organization. The online survey carried out by the WSI institute between January 2011 and April 2012 among 20,500 employees once again shows how unequal German employees are as far as the holiday bonus is concerned (see our dispatch No. 110371). It is paid following certain criteria:
