The longest conflict in the history of German rail, supposed to be over, started up again with even greater intensity. In the aftermath of the flop of the negotiations between the Deutsche Bahn and the train drivers' union GDL about a basic collective agreement, Manfred Schell, GDL leader, announced on March 4, 2008, the beginning of an unlimited strike starting on March 10 which will concern regional and national lines as well as cargo lines. For public transportation users, this is really bad news.
