ILO: weak employment, emerging and developing economies in chronically bad shape

Persistently high levels of global unemployment along with chronic levels of vulnerable employment in many emerging and developing economies continue to profoundly affect the world of work, indicates the latest International Labor Office (ILO) report on the world economic and social outlook and trends for 2016.

According to the ILO, the number of unemployed worldwide is expected to rise by almost 2.3 million to reach 199.4 million in 2016 as a result of a world economy that slowed down in 2015. Emerging and developing economies have been especially affected. In the developed economies the number of unemployed is expected to decline slightly. The global unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 5.8%.
