Germany: thirteenth month globally higher in 2009 than in 2008

After analyzing 23 major sectoral agreements, the WSI concluded that 2009’s 13th month should be much higher than in 2008. In concrete terms, these increases range between 1.5 and 7.3%, i.e. €16-117. However, many businesses decided to use the clause which allows them to cut or cancel the 13th month if they have economic difficulties. A survey carried out among 2,300 chairmen of boards with over 20 employees helped the WSI assess that 15% of businesses producing equipment or sustainable consumption goods already negotiated or chose this option. This number will rise to nearly 20% in the production/transformation of raw materials.
