Germany: Verdi and Deutsche Post bargain for new part-time retirement system to face staff ageing

On July 4th, Deutsche Post and the Verdi union have launched negotiations which will spread over seven meetings in order to develop a new working time system updating part-time early retirement (Altersteilzeit). While the Deutsche Post's staff is getting older increasingly fast, the goal is to increase retirement age for mailmen, which is much lower than the national average, while enabling them to perform the most arduous tasks for as long as possible. The renewal of the job security pact, which will expire at the end of 2011, is also being debated. (Ref. 110497)
