On Thursday 9 July, German services trade union Verdi and the management of the German subsidiary of environmental services group Veolia announced that they have signed a collective agreement concerning the waste management division and some of its 11,000 employees. Katrin Büttner-Hoppe, Verdi’s negotiator, explained to Planet Labor that the agreement provides for an aid scheme dubbed a ‘fund against the pandemic’ (Pandemie-Fonds), which is open until 31 December for the employees most affected personally, socially or financially by Covid-19.
Extension of the existing scheme deemed necessary. The pandemic relief fund, which Veolia Deutschland will quickly set up for the most disadvantaged employees in its waste management division, will be financed with €1 million and will be open until 31 December 2020.
