With the academic year underway the TUC trade union confederation has published results of its survey that reveals almost a third of employees’ requests for flexible working are being turned down by their employers. With trade unions calling for a change in the law that forces business to make more of an effort as regards flexible working, the government has decided to go on the offensive by way of a new web-based platform that gathers and publishes all 100% fully flexible employment opportunities.
The TUC study, undertaken by the survey specialist GQR surveyed 2,700 full-time and part-time employees calculated that 58% of British workers do not have access to flexible work, with that percentage rising to 64% for blue collar workers. Furthermore 28% of those surveyed stated that refusal to grant flexible working is one the main reasons to look for another job.
