The Minister of Labour and Industry launched, on May 14, a consultation on paid paternity leave, which should enable fathers, after six months, to take over from the mother, when the latter does not use all of her right to maternity leave, and this for a 26 weeks period. (Ref. 070440)
Last April 6, the maternity leave went from six to nine months (see our story n°06655). The government wants to extend it to 12 months by the end of this parliamentary session and enable parents to share this time during the child’s first year. The father could then take all or part of the last six months, but only if the mother starts work again.
