On 24 March the UK government announced the implementation of another of its sector deal agreements called the ‘North Sea Transition Deal,’ the goal of which is to safeguard North Sea oil and gas jobs while the U.K. tries to achieve its target of carbon neutrality by 2050. ‘High-skilled oil and gas workers and the supply chain will not be left behind in transition to a low carbon future,’ the government promised.
More specifically, the government estimates that 40,000 jobs will be protected by this agreement that commits to ensuring optimal use of the sector’s capacities as well as investing in new technologies such as hydrogen production, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and offshore wind turbines so that employees and companies can regenerate and invest in greener energies.
