The activity of employment tribunals strongly increased over one year in spite of a reform introduced in 2004 intended to lower the number of complaints by multiplying conciliation procedures in companies. 40% of disputes involve the breaking of an employment contract. The number of complaints filed to employment tribunals increased considerably, from 86 181 during the 2004-2005 period, to 115 039 in 2005-2006: According to the report of the Employment Courts Service (ETS), this rise is notably due to the surge in collective complaints : 63 000 in the last twelve months. There is an average 1,8 plaintiffs by case. And the numbers of cases solved or withdrawn before reaching court fell from 67 to 60%.
