After hinting that it wanted to end its pandemic job retention scheme as soon as possible, the UK government switched tack, and on 12 May announced that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which was due to end on 30 June, would be extended for at least 4 months. During the summer it will be made more flexible in order to combine part-time work with this ‘furlough’ scheme that has HR experts argue has already saved millions of jobs.
Introduced in March, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will now be extended until the end of October at least. The scheme allows companies to ask the State to pay 80% of their employees’ salaries (monthly per salary cap of £2,500 (€2,830), c.f. article No.11747).
