‘Early Conciliation’ was launched in Britain in April 2014 and requires those thinking of making an Employment Tribunal claim to notify the arbitration service Acas who then tries to resolve the dispute. A year later and the Acas report on its progress shows it dealt with about 83,000 cases; a very good result indeed.
Between April 2014 and March 2015 Acas dealt with more than 83,000 cases, or the equivalent of about ¾ of claims that would normally have been made before the British Employment Tribunal. Only 10% of employees and 11% of employers dealt with by Acas couldn’t come to a settlement agreement via the early conciliation (EC) service.
