After ten years leading the GMB union, Paul Kenny is to be succeeded by Tim Roache. Roache is expected to take the union slightly further to the left while pursuing a more aggressive stance of union organising as well as expanding the currently third largest union.
Tim Roache, the GMB’s current Yorkshire and north Derbyshire regional secretary beat the only other contender, Paul McCarthy, the union’s north-west England and Irish regional secretary by 57% to 43% in a vote to elect the new General Secretary and Treasurer of the GMB general union.
