Starting from October 2008, half the people who apply to disability benefits will have their claim rejected after the establishment of a new, more harsh, medical test. The Department of Work and Pensions thus wants to reduce the number of people who will get this income. (Ref. 070966)

Called Work Capability Assessment, this new medical test will be introduced in October 2008 by the Department of Work and Pensions and will be mandatory for anyone asking for the Employment and Support Allowance. This test replaces the Personal Capability Assessment which concentrates more on a person’s physical disabilities and which is not aimed a defining work disability.
