The small media and entertainment union BECTU has the summer to vote for or against a merger with the ever growing Prospect union, which is the trade union for scientists, engineers, and other qualified professionals, which counts some 120,000 members from across the public and private sectors, and which is becoming a serious union contender in certain sectors.
BECTU members have until the end of August to vote for or against a merger with Prospect, which if it does occur would become effective as of 01 January 2017. “I hope that every BECTU member will use their vote and will Vote Yes to the proposed merger,” commented Gerry Morrissey, BECTU secretary general on 27 June, the day the vote was launched.
