Great Britain: Unite tries new campaign style at Mayr-Melnhof Packaging and Tulip

Unite members at MMP were sacked and locked out in mid-February after undertaking a number of one-day strikes over the company’s method of selection for the redundancies and the terms being offered affect 49 of the 149 workers. Unite had already agreed significant changes to terms and conditions to reduce the number of redundancies to 37. The terms were inferior to those of previous redundancies. A month after the lockout, the company issued redundancy notices to 53 workers. The company then dismissed all the remaining workers at the end of March and closed the factory without paying any redundancy money.
