On 08 April the UK telecommunications giant unveiled a new leave of absence that will allow its 10,000 UK employees to benefit from up to 18 weeks of leave to look after loved ones who are elderly, disabled, or seriously ill. Only the first week of this leave will be paid at 100%.
Called Carer’s Leave, this new company policy aims to strengthen support for employees at all stages of their lives. It is modelled on the company’s existing Parental Leave Policy, which allows parents to take 18 weeks of leave per child until they turn 18, with a maximum of four weeks per year. Under Carer’s Leave, the 18 weeks will be allocated per dependent adult and there is no annual limit.
