Hungary: temporary introduction of more flexible working time measures

New working time regulations. In response to the challenges the labor market is facing in the wake of the economic crisis, the Hungarian Parliament adopted a set of amendments to the Labor Code to allow businesses adjust with the economic context. The law provides that weekly working time amounts to 40 hours, but the parties may sign an agreement to reduce it. The law enforced on June 1st allows, still with the employee’s written consent, to compensate the working time reduction by a subsequent working time increase. However, the law supervises this possibility and this is only allowed during a transitory period between June 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011.
