Hungary, which has been one of the flagship countries in car manufacturing since the 1990s, is devastated by the global financial crisis. In concrete terms, since October, there have been over a thousand dismissals or non-renewed contracts at three car manufacturers'. However, the crisis in the sector could take on a new dimension in 2009. (Ref. 080866)
The automotive sector in Hungary represents several thousands of direct jobs, starting with the approximately 10.000 employees working at the Suzuki, VW/Audi and Opel (engines) factories, and about a hundred equipment manufacturer such as Le Belier, Michelin, Hankook, Nief Plastic, Citele, Linamar, Valeo, Delphi.
