The announcement, made yesterday on 27 April, comes amid significant scrutiny of the way Uber operates, from both public and legal authorities in the UK. The firm is planning to allow its drivers, for the price of £2 per week, to sign up to a social security programme providing cover for when they fall ill, are victim of an accident, or are obliged to attend jury service.
