In a 23 May press statement platform-based taxi firm Uber announced it is to offer free insurance cover for its drivers including sickness, injury and maternity and paternity payments. It will partner with French insurance giant Axa and pay 100% of the costs. The Axa partnership commenced in July 2017 in France (c.f. article No. 10321) when it was then restricted to accidents occurring during actual trips. From 01 June 2018 this cover will be available to the 150,000 independent workers who are eligible (to be eligible, drivers have to have carried out 150 trips and delivery agents have to have made 30 deliveries within 8 weeks prior to any event) and use the Uber or Uber Eats apps in Europe.
