On 11 July, the UAW announced that it had presented to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) a petition signed by 30 per cent of blue-collar workers at the Nissan factory in Canton, Mississippi. With this backing, a vote may be held to decide whether the trade union can set up shop in this factory, in the south of the United States. The announcement marks a sizeable twist in a long-running saga and could lead to a conclusion after years of opposition between the Japanese manufacturer’s management in America and the UAW (see article n°9374 for more on this topic).
