At the end of August 2014, UNI Global, the global union federation for skills and services signed a Global Framework Agreement (GFA) with the Indonesian company Indosat. This marks its 53rd GFA signing, the 11th in the Asia Pacific region and the 4th in Indonesia. As a result of this agreement, Indosat, a Qatari owned telecommunications company, has signed up to respect fundamental rights in terms of union, social and work matters.
After Telkom Indonesia (51% government owned) Indosat is Indonesia’s largest telecommunications networks and services providers across fixed and internet lines. UNI Global signed a very similar GFA with Telkom in 2010 (cf. article No. 100683). Since 2009 Indosat is owned by Ooredoo, a Qatari –based telecommunications provider with significant operations in Asia, the Maghreb as well as the Middle East.
