Failing austerity. At the launch of the meeting, ILO Director-General Guy Ryder tried to defuse the conflict between those in favor of austerity and those against it. “I’m afraid the debate too often took the form of two competing truths – absolute and uncompromising, with constructive arguments sometimes conflicting” he pointed out. “The ILO works better when it is guided by dialogue and compromise.
