On 02 May, the Irish government approved draft legislative proposals to tackle precarious work. The draft legislation especially aims to outlaw so-called zero-hour contracts (no guarantee on working hours nor on pay) in almost all circumstances.
“This proposal is to avoid the contagion of an increase in zero-hours practices in this jurisdiction,” said the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. The ruling center-right government indicated on Tuesday 02 May that it intended to make it more or less impossible to use these controversial employment contracts, which have been mushrooming in the past few years in the UK.
