German supermarket chain Lidl announced on 20 October that it will increase the minimum wage across its operations in Ireland to €13.85 per hour. With this move, Lidl becomes the first major employer in the country to meet the new Living Wage level set for the year 2023.
Some 4,200 Lidl employees are set to benefit from this pay rise, which will take effect from 1 March 2023. The other 2,000 employees have higher salaries and are not affected. According to the supermarket group, which will invest €7.5 million to implement the increase, a full-time worker will earn around €1,500 more per year.
