On March 23, 2008, the transition period granted by Directive 2002/14 concerning its application came to an end. All companies with at least 50 workers have to inform and consult their employees. In that context, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) published a Code of Practice for employees and employers, which explains the modalities of the Employees' Act 2006 which implements the Directive into Irish law (see our article No. 06721). This Code of Practice is based on several sources: on the law text, but also on the opinions of social partners and on the experience of the Labor Relations Commission (LRC – an advisory and mediation service for industrial conflicts), in charge of settling disputes regarding the application of the Employees Provision of Information and Consultation Act 2006.
