After several months of controversy and ten days of almost uninterrupted bargaining, the government, the trade unions and the employers found an agreement, on September 17, on national pay. It is part of the second phase of the social pact Towards 2016 (see our dispatch No. 06855) and plans moderate wage increases in the next 21 months, as well as some legislative measures to implement in the coming months. As provided for in the social pact, Towards 2016 (see our dispatch No. 06855), the social chapter was supposed to be negotiated 27 months after the adoption of the pact. After several days of bargaining, the social partners reached a draft agreement.
Concerning wages, the draft plans:
- In the private sector, a three-month pay freeze followed by a 3.5% increase for the following months and then 2.5% for the last twelve months of the agreement.
