Ireland: workers granted 10 days of paid sick leave from 2026

On 29 March, the Irish government approved the Sick Leave Bill 2022, which will for the first time establish a legal framework for paid sick leave, paid by companies. Firms will from now on have to pay employees who are off sick at least 70% of their salary, up to a limit of €110 per day.

Once the Sick Leave Bill (see article n°12795) is passed by the Irish parliament (Houses of the Oireachtas) – a formality since the governing coalition parties have an absolute majority – Irish employees that have been with their company for at least 13 weeks will be eligible for statutory sick leave, funded by their employer. This year they will be entitled to three days of sick leave, before the allowance rises to five days in 2024, seven days in 2025 and finally up to 10 days in 2026....
