The last annual report of the Istat (Italian National Statistics Institute) provides an overview of economic, social and demographic change in Italy during the crisis. While, in some sectors, SMEs are hanging on and even exporting more, for the first time in over ten years, the number of new jobseekers has exceeded the number of new recruitments. This "new" jobseekers are mostly men, "atypical" workers aged 35-54. (Ref. 090592)
Of course, the economic crisis is a serious problem, but it can “also be used to think about the mistakes we made” and “revive development” since the “creative destruction” of the weakest businesses and sectors “opens new reclassification and growth opportunities for the productive system.” This is how the president of the Istat, Luigi Biggeri, presented the 17th annual report of the National Statistics Institute on May 26.
