On November 25 employee unions and ABI the Italian Banking Association (employers body) halted negotiations over renewal of the national banking sector collective agreement, which affects over 309,000 employees. Talks broke down during the final phase of talks mainly due to a yawning distance between their respective positions on the issues of labor costs and the relationship between company agreements and the national agreement. Unions are calling for a national strike from January 15.
“We broke off talks. Now we will embark on a period of internal organization with the workers assemblies and from December 15 we will set the course for a national strike due for the second half of January”.
