The first national strike of call-center workers, organized by the SLC-CGIL, Fistel-Cisl, Uilcom unions and the basic unions (with the support of the organizations representing Alai Cisl, CPO Uil, and Nidil CGIL) took place on September 19, 2008, with a national demonstration in Rome as the high point. An initiative taken "to defend working conditions, against dumping in improper companies, for more inspections" and "for more responsibilities to the contractor." (Ref. 080718)

was an absolute first, we are truly satisfied” declared Alessandro Genovesi,
national secretary of the SLC CGIL, announcing a participation rate of 40%, up
to 60% in some call centers, and several thousand people at the national demonstration
