Italy: delivery riders making big waves on the political agenda
The issue of workers’ rights as relates to digital platforms and in particular meal delivery riders has just exploded onto Giuseppe Conte’s new government’s political agenda. Upon taking office, and before the government actually secured the required parliamentary confidence vote, Labor Minister, Luigi Di Maio invited a Bologna –based Union Riders delegation to a meeting. The capital of Emilia-Romagna is spearheading moves to protect ‘riders’ by way of a charter that has just been signed by two Italian meal delivery companies.
