The 2015 Universal Exhibition held in Milan from 01 May 2015 until 31 October 2015 was a great success attracting over 21 million visitors. It was also a platform for experimenting with an industrial relations model called the ‘Expo model’. Various derogations obtained from known regulations that were undertaken continue to cause controversy. Confederal union bodies that secured institutional guarantees for redeploying workers in exchange for additional flexibility are calling for the institutions to uphold their commitments. For the moment it is mainly the temporary employment agencies that are undertaking the redeployment initiatives.
Expo 2015 closed its doors for the final time on 31 October 2015. In a joint opinion the CGIL, Cisl, and Uil unions called on the institutions to uphold their commitments as regards redeploying workers who are for the most part young workers, under 35, from across Italy.
