Italy: government toughens sanctions against employers practicing sex discrimination at work

The decree-law of January 25, 2010, published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale No. 29 of February 5, transposes into Italian law the 2006 directive on the principle of equal treatment between men and women in matters of employment. This decree, which amends the “Codice delle pari opportunità” (Law No. 198/06, the Italian equal opportunities code) will be enforced on February 20. Here are the key novelties.
