The agreement signed on 19 December between Italy's second-largest bank and the Fabi, First-Cisl, Fisac-Cgil, Uilca and Unisin trade unions will enable 510 employees to take early retirement, while new recruits could total 424. The ratio of departures to new hires should therefore be higher than standard practice in the Italian banking sector (one new hire for every two departures).
The agreement continues the generational renewal policy that UniCredit has been pursuing for several years. Requests for early retirement following an agreement struck in December 2022 far exceeded the 850 departures planned for. As a result, 510 new applications will be accepted in the coming months, following the 328 approved in June 2023. As such, the agreement allows the bank to meet the requests of those who sought access to the early retirement scheme from the end of 2022.
