Poste Italiane, Italy’s largest postal provider in terms of employees (140,000) has signed a protocol agreement with the trade unions on active employment policies. The agreement intends for 6,000 new jobs in exchange for 15,000 ‘soft’ job losses. The agreement is one concrete result stemming from the national collective agreement renewal on 30 November 2017 (c.f. article No. 10479).

Structurally speaking, the volume of letters is falling while that of packages is rising, as a result of online services. Poste Italiane has since had to radically overhaul both its personnel profile and its work organization.
