On 8 February, the Italian Banking Association (ABI) and the banking sector trade unions signed a historic national agreement. The deal covers commercial policies and work organisation, and in particular ensures the responsible sale of financial instruments to the general public. The best practice code, which the ABI says is pioneering on a European level, seeks to prevent repeat instances of the scandals that have hit several Italian banks over the last few years.
In a joint statement, the FABI, First-Cisl, Fisac-Cgil, Uilca, Sinfub, UGL Credito and Unità Sindacale unions write: “The agreement is a key first step in our efforts to develop responsible and sustainable commercial policies, which are in keeping with professional ethics, respecting the dignity of staff as well as the needs and central importance of customers.”
