Negotiations between the Italian government and social partners, which had got under way in July, are set to resume in the coming days. On Wednesday, the country’s labour minister Giuliano Poletti welcomed the three main trade union groups – the CGIL, CISL and UIL – to tackle the issue of retirement, with further talks planned on employment. Discussions will also resume between unions and the employer organisation Confindustria in September, with the aim of reaching an agreement on reform to the collective bargaining model.
Government and unions. Wednesday’s meeting was held with a view to dealing with the future retirement of young people, particularly those that spend lengthy periods in unstable jobs, as well as the relaunching of supplementary schemes and the setting up of so-called Anticipo Pensionistico (APE), which allows Italian workers to take retirement before reaching the legal age and take a bank loan to act as a “bridge” before they start receiving pension payments (see article n°9876).
