The national unions Fim, Fiom and Uilm, the national union coordination of Ilva, “judged positively” the draft agreement reached with the management on May 13 and which will be submitted to the approval of the workers before May 27. The union organizations had presented on September 30, 2008 the platform for the renewal of the company agreement but had agreed to postpone the negotiation until end March of this year in order to evaluate the economic situation of the sector. Due to the aggravation of the crisis which had forced Ilva to reduce drastically production and activity at its sites, with recourse to part-time unemployment, the partners agreed to postpone to January 1, 2010 the renewal of the economic part with negotiations starting on October 1, 2009. Ilva has given an assurance not to program lay-offs in the near future and has undertaken to grant a “bonus” of 640€ in two installments (with the pay in May 2009 and January 2010) in support of workers’ income.
