On 22 April, both the Labor Inspectorate (INL) and the Italian Data Protection Authority (GPDP), which had been called on to ‘address the challenges related to the more rapid digitalization of work organization management systems,’ signed a memorandum of understanding setting out a system of collaboration and information exchange for the next two years. The INL and the GPDP will meet every six months to review the processing of personal data in the work context, and in particular the practices related to remote monitoring of workers via technological devices. The protocol expects smart working to continue after the health crisis. ‘The parties undertake to promote joint information campaigns and training actions, to share and communicate good practices,’ and to work so personal data processing violations by corporates are avoided. Both institutions intend to adopt common guidelines, thereby ensuring consistent decision-making.
