A positive atmosphere surrounded the first informal meeting held on June 28 between Vincenzo Boccia, leader of the employers’ body Confindusria since March 2016, and the secretaries general of the three major central union organizations, Cgil, Cisl, and Uil. The meeting served as a platform for drawing up the agenda of topics that will be treated, including new social and industrial relations, labor policies and business welfare.
Negotiations don’t officially commence until the next meeting, set for the end of July, however this initial meeting gave the social partners an opportunity to renew relations after months of hostility. “Dialogue has been taken up again, and we have given ourselves until the end of July to examine certain technical issues and see if we can obtain a common vision,” Vincenzo Boccia commented cautiously.
