On June 27, the Minister of Economic Development organized a determining meeting on the future of the French pneumatic group's Italian factories. On this occasion, Michelin Italy's manager, Joël Pouget, announced a 30-million Euro investment plan for the four production sites located in the north of the country ; this plan will secure the 5.000 jobs unions thought were threatened. This meeting was organized on union organizations’ demand (Filcem-Cgil, Femca-Cisl, Uilcem-Uil) following Michelin’s announcement, at the beginning of 2007, of its cost-reducing plan “Horizon 2010,” which levied doubt on investments into Italian sites (Torino Stura, Fossano, Alessandria, Cuneo) and on production loads.
